Though regulatory agencies are not always perfect, they are one of the best defenses for long-term care residents. They have the power to escalate complaints to the level of lawsuit, holding facilities and individuals accountable for abuse, neglect, and more. However, if those organizations are not made aware of issues, they can’t do anything. Enter Foundation Aiding the Elderly (FATE). They receive complaints every day and every month they file 4-6 complaints with California state regulators. Below are 3 long-term care facility complaints that ended in violation citations or more.
3 Long-Term Care Facility Complaints Filed by FATE
Doing amazing work, FATE assists elderly residents and individuals file complaints so that issues can be resolved, policy violations can be addressed, and lives can be saved.
Failure to Report Injuries at Fountain View Subacute and Nursing Center
The facility not only failed to comply with the state and federal laws which require filing a conclusion report of investigations, but they failed to do the investigations to begin with. Their actions resulted in a UTI and put patients at risk of continued abuse.
Ignored Dietary Orders at Iris Guest Home
The facility did not follow a doctor’s order for special dietary requirements. The resident, as a result, was fed food groups they were not able to eat, or should not have eaten. This is a health risk to the resident and can result in further health risks.
Failure to Conduct a Skin Evaluation at Manorcare Health Services
A citation was issued to the facility for failing to conduct a proper skin evaluation in accordance with Skin Management policies. Additionally, they did not initiate any treatments or plans addressing pressure injuries, putting the resident at risk of serious infection and, unfortunately, a patient did pass away in this case. The facility is facing a $60,000 civil penalty, but FATE is helping the victim seek more.
